We thought it was worth putting a few words together about creating stunning headlines. In particular, just how long should your headlines be!
There are some simple rules on the length that your headline should be, and this depends on where you plan to use it.
Research has shown us that:
- Magazines/Newsletters etc - short headlines work best (traditionally due to space considerations on the page), we have become accustomed to headlines of eight words or less.
- Webpages - not the same space considerations here, we generally find that longer headlines generally work better as they fit into the eyepath nicely.
- Sales Letters - The research is split, but generally favours headlines of between six and ten words in length! Although we admit that we have had great success with longer sales letter headlines, but take care where you use them.
