It always amazes us that business people say that they can spot a great sales letter, but then ask us to write one for them because the actual task of creating you IS really difficult, and they just freeze up when they try!
We understand that business owners and managers just need to focus on running their business, and happy to let experts write their marketing and sales material; it does make sense!
If you want to write your own sales letters, here are some hints and tips of how to create a winning sales letter that will help your business in 12 easy steps.
- Grab your prospects attention with a great headline that shows them clearly the bargain or offer they are getting when they come to you rather than your competitors.
- Next use a subheading that lets them know that the answer is right inside your letter to keep them reading.
- Your first sentence is absolutely critical to your letter. If your first sentence doesn't make people want to keep reading, you can expect your letter to end up in the circular file (the bin). So make sure it keeps their interest piqued and follow up on the headline promise in the first sentence.
- If you can, throw in a little scarcity so they won't just toss this letter aside for further reading.
- Start your story that you want to use to sell yourself or your companies products/services. Explain any discounts, bargains. Keep it factual, giving a real reason why they need to take action now.
- Follow with another subheading. Your reader may still be thinking "So what?" or "Why should I bother?" Keep the focus in what the reader will gain from the letter you're writing.
- Let them know that they are in for a great deal is they keep reading. But use this opportunity to tell them a little more about your company, product or service.
- Mention a couple of benefits, and ensure you focus on benefits and not features!
- Introduce your offer or USP, and explain why, explain the reasons behind this offer.
- Can you increase the value? Offer a freebie (delivery, advice, report etc). Can they buy with easy instalments? Push that desire by adding more stuff of value.
- Use the final paragraph to insert a deadline. A short timeline will help to decide to take action now rather than wait a few months before deciding!
- Sign off the letter and add a "P.S." This is your last chance to get your prospect to take action, make it powerful; can you add more scarcity to the offer?
